Darrell Moran: respected athlete, dedicated workman, model
citizen. His image has never been tarnished. Known by everyone in his small
town of Burnam, New Mexico as THE MAN. He’s the coach for the little league
football team down the street who almost had to abandon their sport due to
their previous coach quitting. He is a volunteer firefighter twice a month and
when he isn’t helping with either of those, he is at home with his family. Now
about his family. His beautiful wife, Jordyn and his three lovely daughters Enya,
Rania, and Talia were his pride and joy. Enya was the eldest and she also was
not biologically his. He took her in after his best friend died in a car
accident. Though he’d never admit to anyone else, she was his favorite. She
tended to find favor in the eyes of everyone she met. Her exotic beauty matched
her vibrant personality and her reputation lined up with that of Darrell’s.
The three girls were approaching the time for them to begin
living by themselves, and Darrell decided to sit them down and discuss the
aspirations he had for them.
“Now girls, I have compiled a list of jobs that I feel are
suitable for young ladies. I would like
you to take a look at it and tell me what you would like to pursue as a
career.” He said once he had them seated. The girls looked through the list and
Rania and Talia immediately chose their jobs.
“I would like to be a kindergarten teacher” Rania smiled
“And I think I just want to be a stay at home mom.” Talia
conceded. Everyone looked towards Enya as she frowned at the paper Darrell had
given her. She looked up.
“I don’t want to be anything that is listed on this paper,
Darrell.” she admited.
“What do you mean Enya? I think you’d make a great florist.”
He boasted
“I’m not interested. I want to go into business.”
“You’re joking right now.” He laughed
“No, I am going to be a business woman. I want to go to
college and get a business degree.”
“Business is not a feminine field Enya. I don’t think your
beauty will be appreciated there.”
“I don’t want to be admired for my beauty.” She stated
“Well I am not going to pay for you to go into a career that
you won’t be able to be successful in.”
“Do you believe that I am dim witted Darrell?”
“I’ve never met a woman who can outsmart a man, and business
is a man’s world Enya.”
“I’ve never heard anything more ignorant! If you don’t want
to support me, I will find my own means of funding.” She exclaimed storming
out. That night she packed her things and moved into her best friend’s house
for the rest of the school year.
After graduation, Enya went to Harvard on a full ride
business scholarship and never looked back. While in school, she started a
small hair care business her senior year to use as a basis for her thesis. Her
professors thought her ideas were so brilliant that they introduced her to a
set of investors. Over the next 10 years, she built several brands that quickly
launched her to becoming one of the top ten business executives in the world.
One day during lunch, she stopped by a coffee shop and
noticed a man sitting outside the shop begging for spare change. She walked
over to him to give him a few dollars and realized it was Darrell. She gave him
the money and realized he didn’t recognize her. She played this to her
advantage and invited him to her home to clean up and have dinner.
At dinner he thanked her and she began to inquire about his
circumstances.
“Well my wife and I divorced seven years ago and I went
bankrupt about two years after that and I ended up homeless. None of my
children had the provisions to support me, so I’ve been on my own.” He told her
“Oh how many children do you have?” she asks
“Well I have two daughters of my own and I had one daughter
that I adopted when her father died.”
“Had?”
“Yes, had. She left right before her senior year in high
school ended upset with me about her career and I haven’t heard from her
since.”
“Well what about her career was the issue?”
“I didn’t like that she wanted to become a business woman,
and I told her I wouldn’t support her choice and Enya, well she decided to do
it anyways. I assume she is fine though because she never came back” he sighed.
She gave him a look of sympathy. “If only I could apologize to her and let her
know I love her regardless of her choices. I would die a happy man.” She looked
at him and smiled.
“Well Darrell you just did.” She says warmly
“Enya?”
“Yes, Darrell. It’s me.” He gets up and comes to her side of
the table.
“Enya I was so wrong and I deserve everything that has come
to me.” He apologizes.
“It’s fine Darrell. I actually am a successful business
woman. I’ve become a billionaire. I forgive you and I want you to stay with me
until you get your feet back on the ground.” She exclaims.
He happily accepted and she had him back on his
feet after a year
